1- PAIN:
You may feel pain after the intervention to insert a dental implant and the intensity can be very variable from person to person. Take the medicine prescribed for pain before it appears, as soon as possible, within an hour of the intervention. Repeat this dose as needed. Do not exceed the dose daily prescribed. DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN OR RELATED DRUGS.
2- BLEEDING:
A little bleeding which colours the saliva red is normal for the first 2 to 3 days. Avoid rinsing and spitting, which aggravate the loss of blood. If the bleeding is persistent, bite on a dry, folded compress at the spot that is bleeding for 30 minutes and apply an ice pack to the cheek.
3- SWELLING:
Your cheek may swell. Apply an ice pack (wrapped in a cloth) to the cheek for the first few hours. The puffing up will be at its maximum on the second day. Avoid heat.
4- TEMPERATURE:
This may go up to 38°C during the 48 hours following the operation.
5- MOUTHWASHES:
Do not use a mouthwash or brush the teeth on the day of the intervention, wait till the next day to do this.
6- WHAT NOT TO EAT:
Avoid hot food and drink for 2-3 days after the intervention. Avoid hard food or food that might hurt (chips, crusty bread, etc.)
7- BRUISING:
A haematoma (bruise) to the cheek or the neck is frequent and is not serious. It appears in the days that follow the intervention.
8- SUTURE THREADS:
The sutures in the mouth will either dissolve within 15 days or may be removed approximately 10 days later.
(unless the surgeon gives other instructions).
9- PROSTHESES:
If you have a removable prosthesis that covers the area where the implant(s) was/were made, avoid wearing it until healing is complete. (as instructed by the surgeon)
10- DON’T SMOKE!
