Our Dental Implant's Centre policy is to avoid bone grafting as it presents some disavantages:
• Additional surgical intervention(s)
• Higher risk of post-operative complications (infection, tissue rejection)
• Longer treatment time
• Additional treatment costs
To avoid bone grafting we use different dental implant technologies:
• Short and large diameter dental implants
• Computerized technology
• Zygomatic implants
However, in some cases, bone grafting is indispensable:
• To fill in the tooth socket after a tooth extraction, and in case of major bone loss
• To increase bone volume/height
The bone can be taken from different areas:
• From the mandible; chin, upper part, but low bone quantity and under local anesthesia. Good bone quality.
• From the skull (parietal bone) but psychologically difficult for the patient and under general anesthesia. Very good bone quality
• From the hip; but post-operative reactions are more important (limping period of 10 to 15 days) and with general anesthesia. High bone quantity, but less bone density.
